“All their education was directed toward prompt obedience to authority, stout endurance of hardship, and victory or death in battle.” — Plutarch, The Ancient Customs of the Spartans
“Therefore, having judged that to be happy means to be free, and to be free means to be brave, do not shy away from the perils of war.” — Thucydides, Pericles’ Funeral Oration
Victory or Death
A Game of the Peloponnesian War
Victory or Death is a board game for 2 or 4 players depicting the chaos and devastation of the Peloponnesian War. It was a civil war of philosophies at the dawn of political science; the oligarchy of Sparta pitted against the direct democracy of Athens.
The game uses a similar card driven mechanic as the popular Quartermaster General and plays in 90 minutes or less.
