Read the story behind the idea for THE GHOST HUNT!

With my daughter Saphie, who came up with idea behind THE GHOST HUNT!

I think the best way to tell you about this story is to tell you how I came up with this idea. After we finished production on our last film, I took some time off and headed to the Florida Keys, all the while just thinking of new story ideas for my next project. But, I had a very hard time coming up with a story I would like to tell.

And right before heading back home, my 11-year old daughter came up with the idea that we should go on one of those 'ghost tours' in Key West. I asked her why and she said that one of her favorite scary shows was “Ghost Adventures.” I asked her what was so scary about it. And she said, “Daddy, I’m very scared of the SPIRIT BOX!”

Folks, I had no idea what the show “Ghost Adventures” was and what the heck was a “Spirit Box”!

But, I would soon find out why she was so scared of the “Spirit Box”.

So, we bought our tickets and signed up for Sloan’s Key West Ghost Hunt!

On the tour we learned that the first European to visit the island was the Spanish explorer, Juan Ponce De Leon. And 'Cayo Hueso' was the original name for the island of Key West. It means "ISLAND OF BONES".

The reason the Spanish called it the "Island of Bones" is because it was littered with the remains of it's prior inhabitants, The Calusa Indians!

Folks, the whole island of Key West was an Indian burial ground!

So I started thinking, "What if a group of friends are haunted by an evil spirit after a ghost hunting tour?"

After 2 years looking for my next idea, I finally had the story and learned a very important lesson. I had realized that as an adult I had pretty much seen every horror movie out there and nothing really scared me anymore. But to an 11-year old, who hadn't seen everything, was able to show me how scary somethings can still be.

And believe me when I say, when I heard those voices through the SPIRIT BOX, it was then that I knew it's the UNKNOWN that is more scarier than anything out there!
