The Fall is the second instalment of the dark, mystery, urban, dystopian science-fiction series The Mutant Rain.
New Hampton is bloodthirsty. The streets are a cesspool. Greed and corporate necessity rule the overcrowded city.
A mysterious doctor, his young protégé and a monstrous enforcer are playing gods, their wanton destruction going unchecked. The city’s Mayor seeks vengeance and believes the doctor’s work is the key to achieving redemption. These men will change the city forever.
Crime is rife on the streets and only a few brave, have-a-go heroes, seem willing to plunge themselves into the depths of depravity to intervene and, ultimately, save the city from forces it is seemingly oblivious to.
Can the city survive this maelstrom or will the meddling powers-that-be doom everyone...
A full, multi-genre read with something for everyone, especially fans of mutants and brutal violence.
If you've not read book one, The Rain, it is included in all of the reward packages to ensure your backing gets you not one but two full-length novels.
So to bring the second full-length novel to life, I need your help securing funds for:
The essentials to ensure my story is concise and technically sound. The bulk of my budget has already gone on funding these for book one The Rain and the four prequel novellas. Expensive but vital services to ensure the product is at its best.
With your help, I want to polish my story to its most elegant sheen and ensure I launch the best product to market that I possibly can. That's the theory and the dream all in one.

Yep, that's me. Based in sunny little England. Oh, wait...
I love stories beyond the realms of normality, superpowers, collapsing worlds. You name it! The escapism of such stories fascinates me and is something I'm striving to achieve with this series.
I write dark sci-fi - think violence, mystery, mutants and much more. I first came up with the idea for The Mutant Rain series back in 2012 and pottered along in the early years before building up some steam in 2016.
Roll on 2017, I got serious and launched a series of novellas and entered the world of self-publishing.
Even if I affect a handful of people during my writing career, I'll consider that mission accomplished.
If you fancy helping me build the path, then check out the bottom reward for your chance to feature in or create, your very own short novella within The Mutant Rain series.Meet the team:
L.A. Frederick (Author of The Mutant Rain Series)- And also me!
Tiffany Shand (Eclipse Editing)- Supertalented and eagle-eyed copy editor of The Rain: The Mutant Rain Book One.
Charlotte Scanlan (Scanlan Scribbles)- Amazing Australian based artist who drew the imagery for all the Mutant Rain Origins covers.
Reedsy.com - Now these are the guys when it comes to awesome proofreaders, and much more! But for me, and this project, it's proofreading where they'll be helping.
And if you're interested in the timeline here are the broad strokes for the next 6-8 months:
And the breakdown:
Risks and challenges
In a nutshell, delays.
I plan to send out all e-book versions as soon as they're ready, and given that the four novellas and The Rain: The Mutant Rain Book One are all complete means you'll get five of the six e-books at some point in June most likely (Once campaign closes, and everything is processed).
The Fall is about 75% into a first draft, and I envisage finishing the novel by June/July. From there I'll need to let the dust settle, and lay down for a few days, and return to complete a series of run-throughs myself.
Then onto copy editor and proofreader, both are highly-skilled and prompt so I don't envisage any delays there, but there are no guarantees.
As you can see from the images above the covers are already in the bag, so that's a box ticked.
Printing and shipping delays could occur and are out of my hands, but I think we'd collectively be unlucky if they happened to a severe extent.
Taking all of the above into account, I think October is a safe and realistic goal for you to receive all paperbacks and goodies.
Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my first ever Kickstart campaign, and if you made it this far down- huzzah, you rock!
