THE TALE OF TWO SISTERS
My name is Lucy and my sister is Kitty. We both graduated in 2016 with degrees in Fashion & Textiles.
We both became concerned about the devastating effects that the fast fashion industry is having on the environment and in October 2016 joined together to create Studio Five, a brand that celebrates stylish sustainability.
I moved to Glasgow while Kitty stayed in Edinburgh and between the two cities we have built up a network of loving support for our brand. Studio Five's first collection was a mixture of unisex, organic cotton, illustrative tee’s (such as the Mana Tee and Killer Tee, which became very popular for their quirky names) and organic cotton cushions, hand rolled scarves, recycled paper postcards, badges and sticker packs. The collection received amazing press feedback and we have now been part of several sustainable, fair trade and inclusivity events such as Fashion Revolution Week, Label Fashion Show and FashionABLE. We have also built up a strong social media presence of over 1000 followers.

This month Studio Five are going to be a part of the Honey Pop Club set up by fashion and lifestyle blogger Honey Pop. Her following is over 38K and to have her promoting us is an amazing opportunity that validates our work.
Studio Five products can be purchased on our website (www.studiofiveuk.com) and in The Scottish Design Exchange in Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh. Feedback from The Scottish Design Exchange has been overwhelmingly positive, with customers requesting more of our products and enquiring about our next collection. We would like to put our all into our next collection, but our limited resources are making it difficult to bring our creative vision to fruition.
So this is where you come in…
AUTUMN / WINTER COLLECTION
Over the past few months, we have been working on our new collection.
Kitty took a trip to Iceland and collected photographs from the beautiful black beach: its unusual rocky landscapes have inspired the colour palette and textures we have created for our digitally printed fabrics. We also went to Loch Lomond to collect more photographs and gather more inspiration for the collection.
The next stage was to start painting. The aim is to design unique prints that follow on from our last collection by bringing together bold colours and quirky illustrations of animals.
Our collection will be a new selection of bold street style t-shirts, cushions and makeup bags as well as colaberating with a local designer to release a unique limited edition knitwear range.
Our goal of raising £5000 is specifically to help us with the manufacturing of the Autumn / Winter Collection.
So far we have managed to fund the brand ourselves with no loans or grants. This has been a challenge and meant we have built ourselves up slowly using only the income we make to update our stock. We are motivated and believe in our venture so much we have put every penny into the business but to expand we require help to take us to the next level.
We will use the money to produce a large amount of stock and branch out to other retailers, events and markets. This will also contribute to our studio and equipment fees. We will be able to release collaborations with other designers to produce limited edition products that you can have first choice at thanks to your contribution. Every pledge will take us a step closer to what we believe Studio Five can achieve and allow us to promote our ethical and sustainable message while keeping up with customer demand.
