Atziluth! Dies Irae World Emanation Project!?Dies irae English Localization Project Commences!

We will soon begin our Kickstarter campaign for a English edition of Dies
irae ~Amantes amentes~.  You will be the swell that makes the tide of Dies irae cross the seas! So we ask for your support with all the comments and feedback you can muster! Become a lasting part of our history and shape the course of the project's future!

Dies irae was first released in 2007 as the urban fantasy battle opera "Dies
irae -Also sprach Zarathustra-". After several re-releases, the story was
completed with the release of the 2012 version "Dies irae ~Amantes amentes~"
on the Playstation Portable and PC.

In 2015, a crowdfunding project was launched to fund an anime based on the game. The initial goal was 30 million yen, but with the aid of 5188 amazing backers, we were able to shatter Japanese crowdfunding records and raise a staggering 96,560,858 yen! The anime is due to be aired in 2017 and is currently under production. We've decided to distribute it in English-speaking regions as well, so be on the lookout! Make no mistake, we're emanating a wave of Dies irae on a global scale!

"Dies irae" is a one-of-a-kind urban fantasy battle opera. The foundation of
this story is laid in the climax of WW2-era Germany, but the true design
doesn't come to light until six decades later in modern-day Japan. Monstrous
beings known as the Longinus Dreizehn Orden have far transcended the limits
of humanity. The very fate of the cosmos, the very Throne of God is laid
bare and ready to be seized!

The goal of this Kickstarter is to deliver to you an English-localized Steam
release of "Dies irae ~Amantes amentes~; the fullest version of the game
to date with various additional scenarios. Join us, brothers in arms! Help
us bring about the advent of "Dies irae" in the English speaking world and
the birth of a new era for us all!

May 1, 1945- Germany.
On the eve of Berlin's collapse, a group of men and women carried out a certain ritual. To them, suffering defeat in the war meant nothing. If anything, the countless lives lost in the battle served as a catalyst to their sacrificial ceremony. Whether or not their attempt bore fruit ― not a soul knows. Following the war, they faded from sight, mind, and eventually into the realm of myth.

They were the Longinus Dreizehn Orden
― superhumans birthed by the very darkness of their era.

・・・・・・・・・・・・

61 years later ― Japan, 2006.
Ren Fujii, a young man attending high school in Suwahara City, finds his friendship with his old buddy Shirou Yusa shatter to pieces following a certain incident, ending in a vicious fight that sees Ren hospitalized for two months.

The season shifts from autumn to winter ― to the dawning weeks of December, with Christmas on the horizon. Having lost his best friend, Ren leaves the hospital with the intention to rebuild his new life without Shirou.

But even that plan soon falls apart.
Irrationality that defies the realm of common sense begins to assault and devour the city. Abnormalities soon seek to destroy everything Ren holds dear before his eyes with overwhelming violence.

He must change, even if it means crossing the boundary between the ordinary and the extraordinary. His desires are hardly anything grand. All he wants is to return to those days of old. Back to those days filled with simple, everyday joy.

The battle with the Longinus Dreizehn Orden.
A continuation of that war full of madness, carnage, and maledictions.
What future awaits Ren at the end of his road...?

"Dies irae ~Amantes amentes~" will be released on Steam in two parts.
The first part will contain Kasumi and Marie's routes, while the second part
will cover Kei and Rea's routes. As it generally takes at least 60+ hours to play through the entire story, we would have no choice but to sell the game at a higher price point, were we to offer it all in one part. So that a wider audience would be able to enjoy the world of Dies irae, we have decided to separate the story into two parts. Rest assured that backers will have access to both parts once they are
completed. The game will also be polished to fit the current system environments.

Expected Release Date

We plan for Parts 1 and 2 to be released in May 2017.

Expanded Resolution

Resolution will be expanded from the old 800x600 to 1280x768, as well as expanded support for different resolutions for more beautiful graphics.

16:9 Support

As a result of expanded graphics, the game will support 16:9 aspect ratio in addition to the old 4:3.

Enhanced Effects

To match the graphic effects with the expanded artwork, the old effects will also be reworked.

Compatibility

Use of current game engine allows for support on Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10.

System Tweaks

The UI including menus and options will be updated to fit the current systems.

Scenes of explicit violence that were altered in the original Japanese version of ~Amantes amentes~ will be fully uncensored. Such CGs will appear as the creators originally intended them.

Furthermore, a free, separate patch restoring the full 18+ version content
will be available for backers at no additional cost. Details concerning the
patch are forthcoming.

"Translating Dies irae has always been my #1 goal in joining the visual novel translation scene, and I am truly grateful to light and Regista for providing me with the opportunity to do it so soon. As many of you may know, it is one of the most difficult visual novels ever written, but with this team I believe we will be able to make the impossible possible and do it real justice. Thank you for your support and please keep on hyping the good things — every voice counts."

"I really can't believe I ended up a part of this, but I'm more than happy
with how it is turning out. Dies irae is among my favourite Visual Novels,
and I'm damn satisfied that I have a hand in bringing this opera epic to the
West. At times it can be a real struggle to translate, and often I've felt
drained from mulling over specific lines or terms for too long. But that
only stands as a (Longinuslanze) testament to how much effort I and the rest
of the team are putting into this project, and I wouldn't trade the
experience for any other. Light and Regista have both been very amicable
thus far in the process, and working with them is one of the least
frustrating experiences in my translation career. Also Rote Spinne is the
best character, fight me about it."

"I am beyond honored to have been given the opportunity to work on this
esteemed visual novel with such a truly talented team. Dies irae has been a
very long-awaited project in the English VN community, and I still can't
believe that I'm actually a part of the team making this a reality. This
project is by no stretch of the imagination an easy effort, but I firmly
believe that our work will bring forth a product you will all remember
fondly for years to come."

"Conjueror would've never forgiven me if I refused to work on this, so here
I am! Kidding aside, Dies is one of my favorite VNs, and I'm very happy to
have been able to work on it in an official capacity. This definitely has
been a much-requested title from western VN fans, so I hope you guys will
enjoy it."

"I just want to thank both the other members of the team for inviting me to be part of such a huge project, and the Western visual novel community for being so supportive of groups like ourselves as we try to at long last bring these games over to our shores. I hope everyone enjoys reading Dies irae just as much as I enjoy working on it. Also, Wilhelm has the best laugh."

Our company, light, made our debut in January 2000 with the game "White angel".
Ever since then, we have released roughly 70 different titles. Our titles have a wide range of variety, from intense battle VNs, to moege, to tear-jerking stories.
We also develop games not just for the PC, but for consumer consoles like the PS Vita as well.

Ever since its original Japanese release in 2007, Dies irae has received
multiple ports and spinoffs, and will continue expanding into anime/manga/novels in the future. And while more and more Japanese visual novels are being localized, the western scene still appears to suffer from a shortage of action-oriented visual novels rich in lore and atmosphere. We sincerely hope that overseas fans will enjoy experiencing a VN with such a diverse cast of memorable villains, although that's not to say the protagonist is lacking in terms of appeal, either.

An anime adaptation of Dies irae is scheduled to air in 2017, and will be distributed in English-speaking regions as well, which ultimately led to our desire to share both the anime and the game with the rest of the world.

Final goal: $160,000

  • 58% - for Localization Fees
  • 30% - for Rewards
  • 10% - for Kickstarter Handling Fees
  • 2% - BackerKit

Below are the current rewards and stretch goals we have conceived at this
point in time.
However, these are all but temporary ideas.

Should you have any suggestions for other rewards and stretch goals you'd
like to see, or have any ideas on how you feel the pricing should be, please
share your thoughts.
We will carefully consider all your feedback to make this a truly successful
campaign.

*The Dies irae Complete Box is a box that contains all the visual fanbooks
(4) that have been produced for the game up until this point.
*Dies irae ~Interview with Kaziklu Bey is a side-story game meant to be the
forerunner to the Dies irae anime.

This is our current idea for the rewards, and is subject to change.

Kickstarter allows us to connect directly with fans.
This lends us a favorable opportunity to create a higher-quality end product
with your participation.

The localization process of Dies irae has already begun. However, doing the
game's prose and numerous fight scenes justice requires a considerable
amount of effort, and with a story containing over 60 hours of play time, it
will all be for nothing unless we deliver a high-quality translation that
will please our fans. With your help, we would like to topple all these
obstacles and bring the definitive version of Dies irae to life.

However, localizing a work as staggering as Dies irae is quite the
undertaking. We pride Dies irae as a game we poured our heart and soul into,
and nothing would make us happier but to improve it. While we have assembled
a very talented team to make this dream a reality, that alone is not enough.
What we need is you. As it stands now, the current version of the game was a
work the development staff here at light created. However, by taking fan
feedback into account in real-time from now on, all of us can create an even
more spectacular product. And weaving that product together is our duty.
Keeping you updated as soon as we hear your feedback will also increase this
project's transparency.

Thus, we ask you this! Unite and lend us your aid to make this Kickstarter a
resounding success!

Q: How will the censorship in the original ~Amantes amentes~ version unrelated to ero content be handled for the English version? Will the text censorship be reverted as well?

The censorship from ~Amantes amentes~ unrelated to ero content will be
reverted to the way it was in Acta est Fabula (the 18+ version). Censored
text will be reverted to the way it was in Acta est Fabula as well (however, all these restorations will have to fall in line with Steam's policies).

Q: When do you plan to release the 18+ patch?

We plan to release the 18+ patch about three months after the Steam version
is released.

Q: Will the patch restoring the full 18+ version content remove the mosaics?

Yes. When making the R18 version, the mosaics will be deleted as it will be produced according to the American R18 standards.

Q: How will the CG resizing be handled?

Dies irae was already given the HD treatment for the Japanese Android version release. The game was updated at that time. The CGs were cropped and the screen could be scrolled up and down, all to ensure that it all fit on the whole screen. However, in response to demand from those who want the full-sized CGs from the 4:3 era, we shall include a 4:3 version with the game. You can choose which version to play (or both!) when you install the game.

Q: How long is the game?

Approximately 60+ hours in total.

Q: Due to the game's content, will the game not be sold in countries like Germany?

We definitely want German audiences to enjoy the game too. However, we are still looking into if this is possible or not at the moment.

Q: Will the digital version come with the physical version?

Yes. We believe that the game should still be played even in the event of the loss of the physical version.

Q: How will the shipping be handled?

Shipping fees are planned to be $10 for the USA and Japan, and $15 for
other countries.

Q: Will there be any DRM with either the Steam or physical versions?

We have no intentions of having any DRM, no.

Q: Why is the game being released in two parts?

Dies irae underwent quite the peculiar development cycle, ultimately taking 6 years to reach its current, completed stage. The only part of the initial version released in 2007 that remained in future releases was the common route. The finalized versions of Marie and Kasumi's routes were released in July 2009, while Kei and Rea's routes were released in December 2009. All of these were separate releases. As a result, the game's script now takes up 4 megabytes in total, surpassing in length most other games. So we have decided that the game will be released in two parts. Naturally, each part will be reasonably priced, and should you buy both parts, they will form the full version.

Q: How will choices work now that the game is in two parts?

The choices will not be changed at all. For example, even if you make choices in Part 1 pertaining to a Part 2 character, you will end up on the route of the Part 1 character you have the most points with. Other than that, there are no alterations.

Q: Will there ever be a full version of the game sold on Steam?

Yes. Furthermore, even if you buy both parts, they will form the full version.

Q: If I invest in the digital or physical version of the game, do I get both parts?

You will get the full version of the game.

Q: Can I get a digital version of the full version?

Yes, you can.

Q: What are the sizes for the badges?

38mm.

Q: Voices?

The game will be fully voiced in Japanese.

Q: BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that allows backers to adjust their rewards even after the Kickstarter has ended. If you want certain rewards but don't have the money for them at the time, all you have to do is pledge any amount of money for the time being to become a backer. Then, once the Kickstarter has concluded, you will be given access to BackerKit, allowing you to upgrade your reward tier, as well as adding add-ons. You can use BackerKit up until the rewards are locked down for shipping.

Q: PS Vita?

We will make a PS Vita version if the stretch goal is met.

Q: Will the PS Vita version be physical, digital, or both?

Digital-only.

Q: What regions will the PS Vita version be available in?

We are currently looking into that.

Q: When will the game come out?

We plan for Parts 1 and 2 to be released in May 2017.

Q: Will there be add-ons?

Yes. Add-on prices are currently in the works right now, but will be ready by the time of the Kickstarter.

Q: PayPal?

Yes, there will be PayPal.
