About this project
Novel-inspired tea tins
NovelTeas Book Tins are illustrated by hand and filled with unique organic tea blends paired to the theme and title of classic literature.
For example, the Man of La ManChai, Don QuixoTea, pours his companion a cup of tea on the tin book's cover. Inside the tin the Don abides an adventurous and exceedingly idealistic blend of rich Spanish cardamon, red cinnamon, black tea and the root of ginger.
The NovelTeas Book Tin is a well-crafted and entertaining reminder for the wonderful tales and iconic characters of classic literature. Decorated with original artwork and wordplay, these tea-bearing collectibles make for a uniquely drinkable organic pun, and they will always serve as great gifts for friends, family (and self).
Our Book Tin designs are inspired by the classic literature they portray. They fit easily in a library, and rest beautifully in your kitchen with a splash of color, elegance, and humor. When you're done drinking our tea you can add more, or else store other stationary, keepsakes, jewelry, and secret stash inside.
First, we pick major themes from a novel. Next we lay out the iconic scenes and obsessively refine them into the illustrations we call moTeafs. We decorate every cover and spine with novel-inspired imagery infused with subtle tea hints. Look closely at Don QuixoTea for instance, and you'll see windmills in the tea steam. War and Peach reveals hidden horses, flags, and wheat. As you sip and enjoy your tea, these scenes will percolate your memories.
So far we have completed all of the artwork for two Book Tins; 'Don QuixoTea' by CervanTeas and Oscar Wilde's 'The Picture of Earl Grey'.
We have more than 50 NovelTea titles ready for drafting and tea pairing (see the bottom of our page). We have begun our Library with focus on old classic literature, but we hope to progress into modern works shortly thereafter. Currently, we are furiously finishing 'War & Peach'.
Every tea should be as fun to drink as the tin is to muse upon. Our hope is that you'll laugh, share, and reflect on great literature with your eyes and also with your palette. So we partner with world class tea aficionados like Beth Johnston of Teas Etc to help us pair our favorite books with award winning, organic teas. We ask global tea experts to help us marry a unique tea taste to the theme and flavor of a classic novel. Don QuixoTea's Man of La ManChai chai tea is "exceedingly idealistic" Spanish blend of spices. One Flew Over the Lemon Zest is an ambiguous citrus, Macha do About Nothing is not the Macha you think you're getting (these are book flavors we hope to make for you in the future).
We intend to indulge all manners of tea craving: (1) creative, spicy, and fruity tea blends like War and Peach as well as (2) 'tea purist' selections which do not blend any flavors but adroitly pair rare and whole leaf organic teas with literature like Jane Austeam's.
After choosing our flavors, we purchase bulk quantities of our favorite blends and package them in 3oz pouches for each tea tin. Take a look at our first selections:
Each book tin cover is designed to open with two hinges and close with a pressure snap. When you're done drinking our tea you can keep the tin and fill it with anything you like!
We've gone all out to build you a full scale book. The dimensions of which are as follows:
24cm x 16cm x 6cm9.4in x 6.3cm x 2.4in
Why we need your help
Since our tin designs and die lines are highly customized, we need your help to fund a large enough order to satisfy our tin manufacturers requirements and fund the tooling costs.
We also need to pay our 'starving artists' for the beautiful artwork they provide.
Finally we need to fill the tins with high quality tea. By reaching our $10,000 goal we are able to accomplish all of these things for the customers who participate in our KickStarter, and beyond.

The Tea Musketeers
John is a Berkeley-loving engineer and product design manager. He successfully launched two other businesses in online retail and electro-chemical water treatment. He spends evenings walking certain half-deserted streets, rubbing his back upon the window panes, eating peaches, writing spy novels… indeed, he is at times, almost ridiculous, almost at times the fool.
Mitch studied Sociology at UC Berkeley. He reads the tea leaves of online social media and believes in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter — to-morrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . And one fine morning —— So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
Jorgen is an award-winning art director with a background in advertising. Despite his impish size, he heirs from one of the wealthiest families in Westeros, a family which would by-and-large prefer to see him killed than happy. His fate would easily have met the sword if not for his charm and wit.
Dietrich works meticulously to recreate the styles of old masters for an authentic look. Based in Oakland, California.
A watercolor expert, Iuliia is our go to artist for the most appetizing artwork around. Based in Lutsk City, Ukraine.

Risks and challenges
Bringing a new product to market is an uncertain process. We will no doubt encounter some setbacks and delays in our design and artistry. We promise you that we will work hard and we will work passionately to make your tea tin beautiful, to deliver them on time, and to guarantee that every customer enjoys a unique and inspiring blend of tea.
Our production models have been certified by a major tin manufacturing company and our teas have been approved by a widely-respected industry veteran. We are so grateful to have this idea at our fingertips and we thank you so much for your support in bringing it to life.
