Ergastulum is a first-person fantasy horror adventure game that blends a mix of Asian and Western folklore to create a terrifying vision that will test a players faith to the extremes. The game focuses on psychological horror which relies on the character’s fears and abnormal psyche to frighten players. It is inspired by the Dark Souls/Kings Field series as well as AmnesiaGone Home, Ultima and Alien Isolation, all of which helped me design and develop a dark unforgiving atmosphere.

If I can manage to raise the additional funding necessary, I plan to release the game in 2018 in its full glory on PC

 

 

All backers from Lucid Dreamer Edition and above will receive a demo through Kickstarter.

The demo can be redeemed through Steam and includes a section from an early part of the game.

You are encouraged to take screenshots, stream or record your play through, and share them online on your favourite site.

An Ergastulum is a underground building used to hold dangerous slaves, or other creatures. This is the Dark World. The player must traverse between the Dark World and Light World to find the answers they seek and this is done through an in-game hypnosis mechanic.

The game seeks to challenge and confuse the player’s grasp of the narrative by creating doubt about their own perceptions of reality or questioning their own sanity. With only your Crucifix and the Light as your only defence, you must explore the Dark World of Ergastulum to unlock the secrets in the House.

Ergastulum is filled with many creatures conjured up from my twisted mind. With my prior experience in creating a successful horror game, I have designed new enemies that are fresh and horrifying for the player to experience.

The House in the game acts as the main HUB to connect the player to other worlds.

Many of the secrets are held in the House and must be unravelled by finding items in both the House and the Dark World.

Once in the Dark World, the dungeons in the game are 100% procedural. This means that every dungeon you encounter will be different, including the creatures that lurk inside.

The game will be released for PC and will be delivered via the Steam platform.

I plan to release the game in English.

Here's how our budget is distributed and where the money is going after we get funded:

Kickstarter and credit card processing fees are 10% of total funds.

After that I need to pay for reward fulfilment, taxes, business and legal fees which will costs 25% of everything I get.

65% of the budget will be for the rest of development including the art for the game, 3D modelling, textures, animations, programming, sound, music and SFX. A portion of the funds raised to get better equipment and hardware to develop the game with the better tools. The remaining funds will be used for living expenses since this is my full time job.

 

Former PlayStation developer that has worked on several titles over the 9 years in the studio. Last worked on VR Worlds for the PlayStation VR.

K Monkey Games also created Dungeon Nightmares and Dungeon Nightmares II : The Memory which is on Steam, a series that has over 2 million downloads worldwide.

For the past year, I have been working hard on the development of ErgastulumK Monkey Games is currently just myself as the sole developer but with 9 years games industry experience when I was at PlayStation, I believe I can deliver a horror game to light up the genre.

After working on this project for a full year which was self funded, I have come to the conclusion that it would be required for me to try and obtain additional funding to bring this project to its full potential and original vision, rather than just releasing something I wasn't happy with and missing the original goal. This is currently my full time job and has been for the past year. With your help, I will be able to work on this full time and finish it without sacrificing anything to get there.

Since I have prior experience in developing a VR title while at PlayStation, my dream is to also support VR in my current game. However, due to the specifics of getting the VR experience the best it can be, it is required that this would be a Stretch Goal as it will take more time to do it justice.
