Journey 2 Basic Skills
It's enshrined in Article 26 of the UN Charter. The Charter goes on to say that basic education should be compulsory and free. The reality is however, that millions of young people, particularly girls and those displaced by war and conflicts, have no access to that basic right. When you can’t read or write even in your own language, your life chances are bleak. Books aren’t the answer and there will never be enough teachers and classrooms to go round.
So what can we do?
Well, the education technology revolution has started and Klik2learn is playing a part in that. We’ve already developed unique mobile-first products for English language learners. We're an established business and have 100 hours of Intermediate English learning content online (www.journey2english.com). But many of our students have asked us for a beginners’ English course. We've decided to give them that and more - we'll add numeracy and the missing link some people need most - the basic ability to read and write.
We’re addressing a huge gap in the educational market.
The Journey 2 Basic Skills course needs to work both online and offline for low-cost mobiles and pre-loaded tablets. Teaching people basic skills through a mobile phone is a massive challenge so this time, we’re not going it alone. We're working with some key players: The World Literacy Foundation and Blupoint in Africa, The Hearth Education Advisors, Unlearn and The Naandi Foundation in India. Our content partners include City College Glasgow. Together we're designing a new future for millions of learners around the world.
Klik2learn has a track record of delivering high quality digital learning. Our most recent 'Journey 2 English' course is endorsed by the SQA and used in the UK and overseas to fast-track learners, including refugees, to success in gaining English qualifications.
The secret of our success is understanding how people learn. Learners are at the heart of everything we do and the skills of our design and technical team bring the educational vision to life. Crucially for this project, we're working alongside some key global partners - for content, pedagogy and technical infrastructure. They'll help us pilot the course as we develop it to ensure it meets the needs of their learners and their circumstances. Together we can make something truly life-changing happen.
