About PLAYAWAY Game Connection
PLaY AWaY events will provide an opportunity for game players to get together and play games in a unique travel environment. In addition to amazing facilities and a great atmosphere to play familiar games, participants will have the opportunity to learn new games and meet new people. There will be a game showcase for individuals and companies to promote their products. There will be sessions for designers and developers to share ideas and play-test prototypes. There will be an opportunity to buy, sell and trade items. The first event will launch on September 12th, 2015.

Why Crowd Fund?
The plan is to have a mutually beneficial arrangement where game developers send new, unreleased and prototype games to be showcased at the event.
KickStarter will be the catalyst needed to get the event up and running. We need to connect with game designers, potential sponsors and of course game players.
Benefits to general participants
New games will create a unique draw for participants to be among the first to experience games. Participants will have the opportunity to be involved by testing and providing valuable feedback. There will be a positive atmosphere among like-minded individuals as they play favorites and try new games. Many of the games sent for the event will be given away as prizes.
Benefits to developers and industry reps
Games will be promoted to a receptive and influential target audience. Create a buzz that will lead to more awareness and demand for the games. Games still under development can be play-tested and discussed to help refine them before release. The feedback, reviews and publicity opportunities are huge. Note: Private, exclusive game-testing sessions can be conducted where participants can sign confidentiality agreements for games with sensitive intellectual property.

Risks and challenges
The biggest concern is that not enough people register or support the event and we miss the boat for this year. If the Kickstarter campaign is successful, it will indicate sufficient interest to proceed. Another concern could be staterooms selling out; however we have already reserved a large number of staterooms to accommodate the event.
Plans will be adjusted according to the level of interest. To keep it from getting too big, too quickly, a limited number of backers are able to book the cruise at the moment. If they sell out we can add new backer categories to accommodate more participants in a controlled and organized way.
Here are some possible scenarios:
Small and intimate (30-50 participants)
A library of at least 25 games
At least 5 new or unreleased games that participants will be among the first to try
Social (51-100 participants)
A library of at least 50 games
At least 10 new or unreleased games that participants will be among the first to try
Expanded Network (101-200 participants)
A library of at least 75 games
At least 15 new or unreleased games that participants will be among the first to try
Large gathering (201-350 participants)
A library of at least 100 games
At least 20 new or unreleased games that participants will be among the first to try
Convention (over 350 participants)
A library of at least 100 games
At least 25 new or unreleased games that participants will be among the first to try
Trade show booths
Tournaments & awesome prizes
Travel logistics may be a challenge for some as the trip starts in Vancouver and ends in San Francisco; there is the obvious need to get to and from the different ports. Fortunately, there are plenty of options and the event organizer is in the travel industry, so is happy to help with flights, transfers and other arrangements. There are lots of options for pre and post cruise activities.
Aside from the very remote risk of a stray iceberg off the coast of California, the real challenges will be while playing the games (ie: nobody will trade a brick for you sheep).
