Sunglasses can be more than just eyewear, for us they are a canvas. We brought together artists from around the world to a new medium.
- Bringing together 13 artists from 5 different continents to help them spread their creativity in a whole new way
- Engraving the artists’ original designs onto durable, yet comfortable, wood sunglasses
- Sharing the opportunity with the Kickstarter community to be the first individuals to wear these works of art.
Wood is one of man's oldest natural resources. It is also one of man's oldest artistic mediums. Here at Bosky we are combining art and functionality by intricately engraving beautiful graphics onto wood sunglasses. For our campaign, we are offering three different models of sunglasses in a classic wayfarer design. Each of these three models comes in both a large and small size, to accommodate different head sizes. After picking the model of sunglasses that interests you most, choose a graphic to engrave on the sunglasses. Upon choosing which reward you want, please specify the model name, size of sunglasses and artist name. Keep on scrollin’ down to see pictures of all our sunglasses, artists and graphics.
Bosky was founded by Alex Cruft and Matthew Miner under the notion that deviation can lead to the best innovation. For this reason, we have always tried to do things a bit differently. Daily, we strive to revolutionize not just the eyewear industry, but how we see products in general. We have found amazing possibilities with natural materials and continue to experiment with them. This is our latest project and one we know can help share creative concepts around the globe.

WHAT DOES YOUR PLEDGE DO?
Your pledge helps in many different ways. First off, a portion of the proceeds of each pair sold will go to the artist whose design you chose to have engraved. Our artist network is ecstatic about a chance to promote their artwork on a global scale and get recognition for their creations. The proceeds will help us buy our own laser engraver to do all the design work and continue to put out amazing sunglasses. Right now, we are borrowing a laser engraver from Oregon State University. Though it may look like a simple project, this really is a collaborative effort among dozens of different individuals, including artists, videographers, photographers, social media experts, bloggers, etc. This has been an amazing experience for Matt and I and we are both so thankful for your donation.
Wood is a great product to work with, not just because it is a natural, renewable resource but also because it allows for intricate engravings. Each pair of these wood sunglasses are manufactured to our specifications. To make a product that is as durable as it is beautiful, we only offer sunglasses made with five-layer cuts of sustainably-sourced wood. All three models feature anti-reflective, polarized, grey lenses to help protect from glare. In addition, every pair of sunglasses comes with a delicate, black microfiber carrying pouch and a sturdy bamboo hard case. The order is shipped worldwide in a box filled with wood shavings for protection.
Matteo Zilla: Lecco, Italy
Everyone knows me as PULCE (flea), but my real name is Matteo. My inspiration is rebellious and curious. Like a flea, I jump from project to project. One week I'm designing a magazine cover and the next I’m painting street art. It is in these contexts that I live, I create and I move, always looking for new fields of expression. Every passing day, I observe and study the most important trends in the visual arts. Today is a new day and my style is ever evolving.
Tim Marsh: Paris, France
As a child, I began discovering a passion for street art. There was something intriguing about using the world as your canvas. When I make art, I focus on the movement. Fluid lines and ethnic art details became my signature traits. Over the years, I have begun branching out beyond the street art. Still blending movement and art, I became one of the first artists to do light-painting photography and film.
Farah Allegue: Montreal, Canada
Having been born in Tunisia, I developed a strong cultural identity with my home country, which has greatly influenced my illustration work. Since a young age, I have blended patterns of traditional Tunisian art with modern style. Now living in the lovely city of Montreal, I spend my time creating art as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator.
Daniel Ting Chong: Cape Town, South Africa
Based in Cape Town, South Africa, I am an illustrator, designer and artist. I frequently display my work at art exhibitions and give talks to the artistic community. Working in collaboration with clients to make engaging new designs is one of my favorite things to do. To date, I have worked with leading international brands including Nike, New York Times and the Discovery Channel.
Junichi Tsuneoka: Seattle, Washington USA
Born and raised in Japan, I ventured to Seattle upon my graduation from Waseda University in Tokyo. Being a graphic designer at Modern Dog Design Co. for six years really made a great impact on my design career. From this experience, I established a style often recognized as “California Roll Style”. This new style was a result of both a visual and conceptual fusion of Japanese pop culture and American urban culture. In order to broaden my visual language in art, illustration and design, I founded Studio Stubborn Sideburn. My artwork possesses highly communicative, assertive graphics, and contains clear signs pointing back to my roots.
Raxenne Maniquiz: Bulacan, Philippines
Hi everybody! I am a graphic designer and illustrator from the Philippines. Having a penchant for pretty things, I like to collect colorful images and objects to use in my work. You can see this in the design I made for Kickstarter since it incorporates flowing lines reminiscent of the ocean. I have had the pleasure of working with many exciting brands such as JanSport, Herschel Supply Co., Digital Walker, and Bratpack.

Andrew Garcia: Corvallis, Oregon, USA
Hi Kickstarter! I am an avid printmaker focused on relief printing and soon to be graduate of Portland State University. Printmaking is process driven medium with the ability to create multiples. The idea of sharing art is important incredibly important to me. I am personally excited about being unique and different, but realize that it is an impossible endeavor. I am very design oriented in my art creation, drawing influences from fine art. I know that I am influenced by all of my experiences, but am not limited by them.
Rentz: Sao Paulo, Brazil
I've drawn since I was a kid, just like every child. I learned to draw watching 80's cartoons, reading comic books and influenced by my older brother. This passion led me to become an illustrator, and eventually even obtain a master's degree in Graphic Design at Sao Paulo's Belas Artes University. I've also illustrated for advertising and created characters and images for many clients. I have illustrated books, made animations for Internet and short movies. I love lines, movement, types, organic forms, colors and a certain disproportion and creepiness that might surprise tired eyes.
Jorge De La Paz: Santiago, Chile
I am a freelance illustrator based in Chile. I study Graphic Design, working in advertising for 6 years and now I am working independent for different brands and agencies.

I run Studio Intraligi in the heart of Brooklyn, New York.
Hannah McCarty: Oregon, USA
I gravitated toward graphic design early in high school, enjoying information organization for various reports and learning the fundamentals in graphic design classes. Now, I love graphic design for the visual twist it puts on problem solving and communication, as well as for the collaborative opportunities that arise from being surrounded by creative people! In my current projects, I work towards clean and functional solutions with an emphasis on quality and craftsmanship.
- Three models of sunglasses that will only ever be sold on Kickstarter
- Access to art that won't be sold on our website until 2015
- One year warranty on any manufacturing defects
Count me in. What's next?
Any help with promoting this campaign is greatly appreciated! We hope to make a bit of a splash and would be so thankful to anyone who helps us share our project via word of mouth, social media, or any other creative idea (Goodyear Blimp anyone?)
If you are an artist and like what we are doing, we would love to feature your work on a pair of Boskys. Send us an email at email@example.com and let’s get talking.
Just another big thank you to everyone involved in this campaign and everyone who has helped share it or pledged (or both!). You all are the best and anything we can do to help you in any of your ventures, let us know. Startups succeed because of the people supporting them.
Thank you all again,
Alex Cruft and Matthew Miner
