Thank you for taking the time to check out my project. It's a huge blessing to have the chance to record my music.
I've always been extremely nervous about sharing my music with people. Self doubt and fear have kept me time and time again off of the stage. At some point this year, I got sick of it. Unfortunately, getting sick of being afraid doesn't actually make you not afraid, but I've at least recognized the value in facing my fear. I don't want to spend my life trying to do anything but music. It's what I love and what makes me happy. It's like breathing, or laughter, or a really good, guilty pleasure rom-com; I couldn't survive without it.
I first discovered the power of songwriting when I was about nine. I wrote a song for my father related to growing up and getting old, and the first time he heard it he bawled. Now, I'm not saying I enjoyed making my dad cry, but let's be honest... I thoroughly enjoyed making my dad cry. Knowing that what I wrote had the power to affect emotions in other people was crazy exciting for me. Writing music quickly became a way to connect with others through my experiences, and the trials and joy in my life, as well as theirs.
There will be five songs on this album (unless we reach a stretch goal to add another), and all of them mean something different but powerful to me. I don't want to give too much away, but this collection of music has been an emotional journey from joy, to anger, to loss. It's incredibly exciting to be able to share some of my story and my experiences with you.
Working with Gus Berry on this project is a blast. It's so cool to be able to take him a song, explain what it's about, and have him understand exactly what I'm asking for and then bring it to life. Also, the studio is the real deal, and it's very surreal.
That rhymed, and I regret saying it.
All I can say is that I'm grateful - grateful for this opportunity and grateful for your support. If you want to hear the full version of Brilliant Shade of Black, which is the first song from the album, and the song used in my Kickstarter video, you can find it above. If you'd like to receive a notification when the Kickstarter goes live, and updates after it does, you can click "follow" at the top of the page to be sent emails. If you'd like to see an approximate layout of what all the money I have asked for will go towards, you can find that below. If you'd like a fancy vacation to someplace warm, you can donate $2000 to my project, and I'll send you a message telling you how much I'd like that, too.
In all seriousness, thank you. This is a large step for me in both my confidence and my career, and it means more than I can say to receive your support.
