About this project
My name is Martin.
I am a photographer and a musician. Like other creative people, I tend to see the world a little differently than the rest of society. Well, one day, I bought my friend a shirt that I was going to give him for his birthday. Later, I for some reason decided a plain t-shirt was just... too plain. I thought of a vintage lens cloth I had inherited with a camera. The cloth was a fantastic yellow color and was oddly-enough from a glass store in Korea called "Rome Optical." It was unique. And I like unique!!! So I sewed it onto the shirt over the pocket. Did I mention I like unique!?
So.......I kept the shirt..... Sorry, Micah! Happy Birthday?
My photographer friends loved the shirt too! Some of them thought it was funny. Some of them genuinely thought it would be handy in the middle of a shoot. My friend Sheldon thought it would be great for a smart phone. In fact, this photo is from a moment in a Bokeh meeting with Sheldon when I noticed him clean his phone on his shirt. I said, "Wait a minute, did you just clean your phone with your shirt?" We looked at each other and realized almost everyone does that all the time! Also, look at Sheldon's manly arms.
Now that we've been talking to photographers and manufacturers we've realized that a nice lens cloth shirt may be incredibly valuable. Especially when you've just bought a $400 phone or are in the middle of a $3000-photoshoot with a client. Being well-dressed, but slightly thrifty boy scouts ourselves, Sheldon and I have negotiated with manufacturers to design shirts that are worth every penny. Whatever you value, (form, function, design, quality manufacture, aesthetics, durability, synthetic/organic ratio, consistency, uniqueness, artistry) we've thought of it and are pumped to offer shirts that are worth every penny: Bokeh Lens Cloth Shirts.
The Skinny Of It:
That means backing the Bokeh Kickstarter project will get you a high-quality poly/cotton blended t-shirt with a microfiber lens cloth pocket and the novelty of a backup flap (in case you and your shirt have been sand-ed, sprayed, spat-upon by camels, hit with pudding). This immediate offering is meant for a broad audience while providing something completely unique, so the colors will be black (it's slimming and can be worn to a wedding shoot with a blazer or to a game or maybe even to bed) and a grey pocket (because bokeh will always be unique and outside of convention). Hey photographers, remember the way you dress yourself can help brand you as an artist!
The prototypes keep their vibrant colors (and don't stain your other clothes in the washer), have a slight natural stretch to them, and are a great average length for the width size. Men's and Women's cuts are available IMMEDIATELY, but the women's cut is not pictured here.
The following shirt designs went through prototyping, but can't be produced until we've earned the money for it. Have a gander and let us know which you like best?
