Blind Wizard Brawl
Blind Wizard Brawl

This project has already launched.

Blind Wizard Brawl is a "phygital" hybrid game, meaning it uses both physical and digitalcomponents for gameplay. It is primarily a tabletop game which has you and your competing wizard friends sit down and challenge each other for victory in the Brawling Arena!

Each player will also be using a (free!) app which generates private characters, stats and abilities to be used during play.

What's in the box?

The game includes three decks, Wave Blaze and Growth. Each deck has four different art variations, and 3x copies of each of these. There are 12 cards in each deck.
The game also includes three art transition cards and an instructions leaflet.

There are only three primary card types in the game: WaveGrowth and Blaze. However, each type of card has a variety of artwork, all of which can be placed next to each other in any way you like to create endless dynamic panoramas out of your cards.

The App is available on Android, iOS and on browser via our website. The First Edition version is currently available, which functionally works for the game, but will not have updated sound effects, artwork or features such as the Privacy Screen and casting sounds.

The App does not require a constant internet connection to run, even on the website. Once you have it, it's there. Updates will be announced every so often if any bugs need fixed, or balancing issues; that's right, should any problems occur, we can fix them for free and in real time! It will also be used to update the app with the newest versions so you can get all your Wizard Codes!

As well as generating your stats and abilities and wizard portrait, the app will also create a wizard name, randomly arranged from three different name sections (prefix, proper noun and suffix) which results in thousands of possible combinations of different names.
Can you step into the shoes of the Wizard you have now become?

These are just a fraction of the possibilities!
These are just a fraction of the possibilities!

The app is kept simple and clean for you to see everything you need to know at a glance, and most aspect are randomly generated independently of each other, keeping each game unique and exciting! You can change strategies, play with different builds and bluff your opponents, because they will never know which Wizard you are today!

Your Wizard needs to remain private, but if you'd like to keep your phone or device on the table, or rest it down without your foes slyly spying on your stats? Well the handy privacy screen can be summoned with one magical swipe of your finger, and dismissed as quickly!

Inside the app, you will be able to enter Wizard Codes which unlock specific Wizards certain name parts and unique abilities. Once these codes have been entered, you unlock them for use in your app forever! These codes will be available through various backer rewards and, later on, online events and such. Most Codes will just be digital, but certain codes will come on a Wizard Card with the Wizards name, art and ability for you to own as well.

The game can be played by 2-4(+) players, and takes roughly 10-20 minutes to play depending on number of players and experience.

Each player will need access to their own app, but only one deck of cards is required.

First, use your app to transform yourself into a random wizard. This will give you a new portrait, name, ability and stats. Keep this private
To setup the game, separate each of the three card types (Wave, Growth and Blaze) into three stacks in the centre of the table, where all players can reach them.

Players takes one card fromeach stack to create their starting decks. You then shuffle your new deck and draw two cards from the top of it; this is your opening hand

Choose a player to take the first turn. We recommend either the player with the worst eyesight in real life, or the player who can demonstrate the most magical powers in real life. It's up to you to choose which, but a magician always goes first

During each players turn, you do two things: do some wizard magic, and then draw a cardfrom your deck. To do wizard magic, you can take one of three actions described on the cards: ChantCast and Mind Blast.

To build up your deck and stats with magical power, you must Chant to draw in the magical energy from the arena. Channeling will improve the effects of your chanted card (but not increase the stats gained).

To attack another player with spells using your stats, you Cast

Announce your value of the chosen stat, as shown on your app. You may also reveal from your hand any number of cards of the same type as the card you cast. For each card revealed this way, you gain +1 to your attacking stat for this cast. Revealed cards remain in your hand.

The defending player takes damage to their Health equal to the difference between your attacking stat and their corresponding blocking stat, as stated on the cast card.

All damage taken is input into the app, but they may attempt to trick you by tapping the Bluff Button to conceal the exact amount of damage taken.

To cast a powerful, unstoppable spell for some raw magical burst damage, you can Mind Blast

To do this, you must have at least one of each card type in your hand. Return one of each card type to their respective stacks and select another player to deal 5 damage to.

If you do not wish to do wizard magic for any reason, you may skip taking this action.

Finally, at the end of your turn, draw one card from your deck. If your deck is empty, shuffle your discard pile to create a new deck.

Players will also have access to unique, hidden abilities on their wizards, generated by the app. These abilities can range from private, passive enchantments to public and powerful activated spells which can change the flow of the game dramatically.  This app is entirely offline, after initial download. The web version also doesn't need to be constantly connected after initial load. How each player uses these abilities will determine their success in the arena!

Play then moves on to the next player, and continues clockwise until only one player remains alive, at which time they are declared the Blind Wizard Brawling Champion!

Risks and challenges

The game is functionally complete and mostly ready to go; the first edition of this game has already been published and sold to the public. The game is mechanically finished so there should be no delays due to development and testing of game mechanics. However there is still room for polish and making the game feel as finished and professional a product as possible, such as improving box artwork, tweaking some abilities and ensuring the app is as easily accessible as possible.

We have a manufacturer ready to go with our quotes and rough dates on when printing can begin. We have February listed as our ETAs for reward limits, however we actually expect to have everything arrive before then. We are giving ourselves some cushioning time in case anything does go wrong or we have missed anything, but we have a plan and expect it to go smoothly.

Kickstarter boardgames have become somewhat of a pre-ordering service, however we don't have as much startup capital as many of these companies. So, we are taking the time to ensure that our successful funding goes towards completing this game and making it the best product possible for backers and future players.

We have already invested a significant amount of our time and money into testing the game broadly, improving assets and art, and creating review copies in order to ensure that the game met professional standards, so we are definitely committed to the campaign.

It is our first campaign and delve into the full manufacturing and shipping process, however we have been diligent in our research and are surrounded by other helpful developers and experienced crowdfunders who have been all too happy to help and make sure that we will be able to deliver the best wizard brawling experience possible!
