My partner and I booked this hostel last minute, as we realised we would need somewhere to stay the night prior to our 2 day/2 night Whitsunday trip. We booked YHA as it was reasonable price and good location, hadn’t really done our homework on it so just turned up blind.
This was the first hostel we have stayed in where we only shared the bathroom/shower room with 1 other room (this was the guests staying in the double room next to ours) The bathroom was off limits to all other guests and this was a touch I really quite liked! Our room was cosy, but a good size double with free air con = happy days!
Another bonus is that this hostel is ideally located to the strip/lagoon so everything is walking distance, even better our boat trip office (Avatar – Ozsail) was literally next door, so didn’t have to wake early for the morning briefing.
Staff were friendly and also very helpful, when we came back from our Whitsunday trip they let us use their communal areas to eat and recharge our electrical before our transfer back to Proserpine airport. We also booked our transfer from the hostel, which was the generic $18 per person per way…it’s a 30 minute drive so probably cheaper to pay this than to get a taxi!
So overall highly recommend, I would happily use YHA again as a couple booking double rooms throughout our East Coast trip
“A good, room location and I liked the view”
The YHA was in a good location being within walking distance of shops, cafés, the beach and the lagoon. The walk to the ferry terminal was a bit longer.
The room was comfortable room and I enjoyed the view of the trees outside of the front window. The bathroom was shared with one room next door (The Hostel looked like a converted apartment building). I enjoyed the ambience of the hostel.
One thing I found annoying about Airlie Beach is that there was nowhere in town where I could pay for my air ticket (I had to fly back at short notice) and I had to get the bus up to Cannonvale just to pay for my ticket.
I enjoyed my stay at YHA Airlie Beach.
Great hostel. Nice and chilled. Near the nightlife but not in the thick of it.
Staff great that helped me book my YHA in Mission Beach, Greyhound and a sailing trip.
I really enjoyed my stay here.
I’ll be back.
Room Tip: Dorms are great. They all have balconies which was a nice surprise.
