Thank you for taking the time to look at my Kickstarter page!
All my life I have been passionate about playing games in both forms, board and digital, most of all I have enjoyed playing with others more than anything! Recently I have got back into playing both forms more regularly and enjoyed it more than ever! I want to follow this passion for social gaming and bring it to Brighton City Centre, 8BitBoards, a gaming café that sells local food and drink, has a great library of board games and a collection of retro consoles with some of the classics. Our research has been done, people love this type of café and there are many other successful ones in other areas, it's time Brighton got theirs! 8BitBoards will focus on bringing a fun and friendly environment where everyone feels welcome and gives them a chance to play for fun and learn how to play new games. We are hoping to open this summer, 2017!
The Good Ol' Days
I remember the days with the family around the dinner table playing games such as Monopoly, Cluedo, Scrabble, Jenga and many others. When I wasn't playing with my family I could be found playing on a console such as the SNES with Street Fighter or the Playstation with Worms against friends or family. Both forms of games bought amazing entertainment and a social aspect, best of all you had to actually be there to play and socialize unlike today's form of multiplayer gaming.
Board Games and Console Games
8BitBoards Gaming Café already has a good stock of board games from including of my favorites but we need more from popular choices and ones that you suggest, after all, you will be playing them! A few favorites are: Ticket to Ride, Exploding Kittens, Pokemon Trading Card Game, Forbidden Desert, Munchkin and many more. The café will also have an area for the retro consoles where we will stock consoles such as the NES, SNES, Sega Mega Drive, N64, Game Boy, Gamecube, Playstation and more. A few favorite retro multiplayer games of mine are: Worms, Mariokart, Super Smash Bros, Micro Machines, Goldeneye, Tekken, Super Mario, Crash Team Racing and many more!
We also want to help other Kickstarter projects by stocking their board games and indie games to help them achieve their goal giving you a chance to try out the games first. After all, if you help us we want to help you!
Does it cost to play?
The gaming café will simply charge a cover fee for your time at the café of £5 (Cheaper with membership) to cover any accidental damage or loss. Imagine playing Chess without the king, pretty pointless so the cover charge helps us to replace any missing pieces or damaged games. As you are playing you will also be able to order food and drink that will come from local sources to help support the community. We want to take the best of Brighton and offer it in our café in turn helping local businesses thrive. Whether you need a coffee, tea, a sandwich or a cake, eat, drink and play for the time you are with us!
8BitBoards Gaming Café will also hold special events and tournaments where people can come and take part in competitions with particular games. These tournaments will be purely for fun, cost an entrance fee and the winners will receive their prize from the café. Some tournaments we will look to hold with board games are: Carcassone, Catan, Pokemon, Ticket To Ride, King of Tokyo and many more. We will also hold retro console game tournaments such as: Mariokart, Street Fighter, Super Smash Bros and many more!
What is your money paying for?
We need an injection of cash to bump up what we have already acquired in order to build up the stock of games that we have so you have a large choice to choose from when you arrive. The Kickstarter funds will also help us buy our furniture such as the tables for the board games along with shelving and initial stock of food and drink supplies. Properties don't come cheap either, your funds will help to ensure that your first couple of months with us are run as smoothly as possible and we can offer the best possible experience without us having to worry about overheads like rent. (This may also mean we can offer games we stock at a reduced rate to begin with, win/win)
With your backing we can complete our plan and bring a fun, social, community focused gaming café to the streets of Brighton.
