When we launched our organic condiment company as graduate students at the University of Oregon, we asked you: When was the last time YOU were excited about ketchup? Three-plus years as a successful food startup later, we're launching something new — but we don't think we need to ask you whether you're excited about tacos.
We've created a new line of Taco Sauces, using the same approach that caught your attention: real, organic ingredients, bringing unique and surprising twists to familiar favorites.
Hi, We’re Red Duck Foods.
Hailing from Portland (by way of Eugene, Oregon), we launched our company right here on Kickstarter in 2013. What began as a class project has blossomed into a full-grown business. We now produce four ketchups (Original, Smoky, Spicy, and Curry), a cocktail sauce, and three barbecue sauces (Smoked Applewood Molasses, Sweet Mustard Peppercorn, and Hot Honey Chipotle). We've expanded distribution to Canada, Australia, & Hong Kong and have landed in over 2,300 stores across the United States. Additionally, we have recently submitted an application towards a B Corp certification, solidifying our commitment to sustainability, community, and environmental stewardship.
Let's Taco 'Bout the Sauce
We have a habit of releasing terrific trios of tasty... Things.
As with our previous releases, we looked near and far for inspiration. Lo and behold, we've perfected three awesome flavors we can't wait to share with you:
- Approachably Mild may be shy with heat, but it's certainly no wallflower when it comes to flavor. We begin with our base of peak-ripeness organic tomatoes, which go from field to puree in less than four hours for maximum summer-fresh flavor. We layer sweet carrots, earthy bell peppers, and fragrant orange zest to create this perfectly rounded, balanced addition to any fiesta. Dollop it on a cheesy, farm-fresh omelet. Top a crunchy bean tostada, overflowing with warm, savory beans, a generous heap of cotija cheese, and a bright, crunchy slaw. Put it on a burger? We wouldn't blame ya.
- Uniquely Korean is the most adventurous of the bunch. Inspired by our favorite Asian-Mexican fusion food trucks (ever plentiful in Portland), we brought some of our favorite Korean flavors into the mix. Again, we start with the best tomatoes ever. We add white miso and tamari: the savory superstars, umami umpires, fermented fellas. For some heat and flavor, we introduce Korean Red Pepper and Bird's Eye Chili. The end result has a ton of savory depth, a medium-level heat, and a perfectly balanced taste. This one is perfect for bulgogi tacos and burrito bowls, and especially tasty atop a pile of caramelized fajita veggies.
- Actually Spicy don't play no games. We've engineered this one with an eye toward making sure it has a beginning, middle, and end heat — because there's nothing more disappointing to a spice lover than a "spicy" treat that falls flat. We've enlisted a veritable pepper army here, with habañeros, jalapeños, and cayenne, among others. Lime enhances these flavors to their fullest potential, and adds a fragrant brightness to round it all out. We love this one on crunchy, meaty, sour-creamy nachos (with plenty of beer).
As always, our ingredients are pronounceable, organic, vegan, gluten-free, and preservative-free. Who needs -ites and -ates when you have organic tomatoes and vinegar?
So, what are we Kickstarting?
We're looking toward a first production run! The $15,000 we are hoping to raise will get our newest product line into the hands of our most faithful followers first: the Kickstarter community. We started here, so we're staying here!
